Newport Beach Drunk Driving Caused Vehicular Manslaughter


NEWPORT BEACH - Orange County Register reports that An Orange County judge today declined to offer a guilty plea to a repeated drunk driver for his vehicular manslaughter in high-speed, DUI / drunk driving crash.
Jeffrey Kirby, 51, of Costa Mesa, killed a martial arts entrepreneur in a drink driving accident in March in Newport Beach.
He has been charged with four felonies, vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. He has been taken to Orange County Jail and had $500,000 bail on him.
Kirby lost control of his car while drunk driving in a speed of 100 mph and crashed into Lewis' Ferrari.
Lewis, of Huntington Beach, died immediately after the car crashed. Lewis' girlfriend, Lacy White, was seriously injured.
Kirby had prior drunken driving convictions in 1985 and 2002. And he knew that drinking driving / driving under the influence was unlawful and dangerous, but he still chose to do it. He had a .13 blood-alcohol level after the crash.
